The ULF Manifesto
Onescore and seven months ago, our general manager brought forth to this team a new coach, conceived in mediocrity and dedicated to the proposition that all MLS teams are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a Great War, testing whether that coach, or any coach so conceived in losing, can long endure.
We D.C. United fans are met on a great field of green. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final-resting place for those championships which are our natural right and have become so endangered in recent times.
It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow this ground. The brave players who struggled here have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract.
The world will little note nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what Thomas Rongen has done to our team.
It is for us, the fans, rather to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who have played here thus far so nobly advanced. It is for us, the fans, to be here dedicated to the removing the great impediment before us – the Smoking Dutchman and his mediocre ways – that we highly resolve that these losses shall not have been in vain, that these fans behind United shall have a new birth of winning, and that the championship tradition of United, by United and for United shall not perish from the earth.
As Talon is the son of Phoenix, United will rise from the smoldering ashes of the Smoking Dutchman to regain our rightful prominence. May God's mercy be with all who stand in the way of the exiting Rongen and spare them of their imminent pain.
(Thanks to geordienation for the contribution to the ULF effort.) |
